Kona NARM Therapy
The Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM) is an advanced therapeutic approach designed to address the complexities of Complex Developmental Trauma. Developed by Dr. Laurence Heller, NARM integrates the human being’s biological reactions to trauma under the psychology of human development. NARM Practitioners understand how those disruptions in early attachment and relational patterns impact an individual’s development across their lifespan. Overall, NARM offers a sophisticated, compassionate, and gentle comprehensive framework for understanding and resolving these foundational disruptions. By addressing the lasting effects of early life trauma, clients build healthier relational patterns and greater emotional resiliency and rewire their neuronal network adopting permanent new behaviors.
The NARM approach values the present-moment connection with clients, fostering a safe and supportive environment where healing can occur. This relational focus helps clients explore and resolve deep-seated patterns formed from those misattuned early attachment relationships. NARM recognizes the interplay between physiological and psychological processes in trauma. We can access the repressed/disowned/dissociated emotions, thoughts, and feelings, by befriending and learning the language of the unconscious, yet ever-present, Reptilian Brain/Autonomic Nervous System. NARM addresses how trauma affects the nervous system, and by integrating somatic “body” awareness, individuals reconnect with their bodies. This body-centered approach aids in releasing stored trauma and restoring emotional regulation in relational situations.
Behaviors that developed as a result of fearful traumatic/shocking moments were successful coping strategies for the child but many times interfere with developing authentic intimate relationships. This approach empowers individuals to reconnect with their authentic core identity, reducing shame and self-blame, and encouraging a compassionate exploration of their earlier experiences without re-traumatizing them. Using this approach individuals can disentangle from maladaptive survival strategies and negative self-images formed in response to trauma. By doing so, individuals can reclaim a sense of authenticity, wholeness, and more aliveness.
Through this somatically integrative and non-pathologizing understanding of human resilience, individuals are supported in developing a more coherent and empowered sense of self, enhancing their overall well-being and capacity for fulfilling relationships and personal development. While at the same time deeply engaging their subconscious more intentionally.
Old dysfunctional patterns now accessed and witnessed are reframed and then released. This reorganizing process rewires the brain’s neuroplasticity and this affects and re-regulates the nervous system. Allowing the individual to have a greater sense of agency over their lives, relational difficulties, and unwanted emotional reactivity.
